Srinagar: Once again the curfew has been imposed in parts of Srinagar. Curfew was imposed as separatists called for occupying the Lal Chowk city centre here and the situation was apprehensive of violence after the Friday congregational prayers.
According to a police officer, curfew has been imposed in five police station interior areas of Srinagar and Batamaloo which is downtown area and Maisuma areas in the uptown.
He said the action has been taken to stop the movement of the people in these parts in view to occupy Lal Chowk by the separatists, as well as because of the apprehensions of violence after the Friday prayers today.
All the routes leading to Lal Chowk city centre have been blocked with concertina wires and security measures have been taken to prevent any law and order problems, the official said.
He said while there was no curfew anywhere else in Kashmir, restrictions on the assembling of people under section 144 CrPc were imposed throughout the Valley as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, normal life was affected in Kashmir for the 84th consecutive day today due to the separatists call for shut down.
Shops, petrol pumps and other business establishments remained closed, while public transport was also heavily affected.
Schools, colleges and other educational institutions also remained closed across the Valley.
It’s noteworthy that separatist groups are holding weekly protest programmes with periodic relaxation on some days and have extended the strike till October 6.
