One option is to suspend Question Hour in the Lok Sabha and have a discussion without any voting,” a senior minister said, adding that the Opposition has given feelers that this proposition is acceptable to it.

With just four working days left for this session to end, senior ministers held meetings with the Congressled Opposition to discuss ways to resolve the issue. (December 13 will be a holiday on account of Prophet Mohammad’s birthday.)

However, most MPs did not share the optimism of the Union ministers and felt the session may end soon after the two supplementary demands for grants listed by the government are passed. Since no consensus has been reached in the GST Council, the government cannot bring the two GST Bills to the House for discussion and passage.

At the Business Advisory Committee meeting of the Lok Sabha, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan suggested both sides should come to an understanding and end the House deadlock. She rued the disruptions had continued for too long. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar appealed to the Opposition to come to the discussion table.
