Several parts of the state were marred by militant attacks, civilian protests and burning of schools after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists Burhan Wani in July . Around 100 people lost their lives in unrest in the past five months, and many have suffered grievous injuries during protests. The Valley was also left paralysed by continuous shutdown calls by separatist groups. However, the state is relatively peaceful now with now reports of protests.
The unrest led to affecting ties between the two nations, with India accusing Pakistan of fomenting tensions in the state. To add fuel to the fire is Pakistan’s continuing ceasefire violations. On November 23, a day after Three bodies Indian soldier body found in Machil sector with one among them in mutilated state , armed forces launched a massive assault on Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC). Armed forces are using 120 mm heavy mortars and machine guns in the attack on Pakistani army posts.
