The television and radio regulatory body of Pakistan, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, has banned the broadcasting of all Indian channels in the country. The ban will be effective from October 1.

The regulatory body has also announced that strict action will be taken against the cable operators if they fail to comply with the ban.

Not only the Indian channels but a group of Pakistani theatre owners have announced ban on Indians movies as well. Atrium Cinemas, Centaurus and Super Cinemas and many more have decided that they would be boycotting Indian films until the current bilateral tensions eased.

Other theatre chains of Pakistan, like Cinepax, had not yet reached a decision on whether or not they would abide by the (at present, voluntary) ban.

A boycott of DVDs from India as well as Indian TV shows was demanded by certain quarters.

The PEMRA move regarding Indian channels come as the Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association announced a ban on all Pakistani artistes and technicians working in India.
