Nainital: A first-of-its-kind all women Lok Adalat was held at Nainital Club here today for speedy disposal of cases related to crime against women.
Six cases were taken up on the first day of the Lok Adalat pertaining to use of force against women, atrocities by in-laws and domestic violence.
Presiding over the first day’s proceedings of the court, Uttarakhand Women’s Commission Vice President Amita Lohani said “This is the first attempt at an all-women Lok Adalat and we will make it a priority to dispose of as many women related cases as possible in a speedy manner.”
“It is important that such Lok Adalats are held frequently as the matters addressed during the course of this event are serious in nature. Many women feel shy to come forward and address their problems which gives strength to the motives of wrongdoers in the society.
“Such proceedings will not only help in uplift of women but will also work as a deterrent for such delinquents,” she said.
