Having worked in the industry for a decade, Nitya Mehra felt it was the right time to make her directorial debut with “Baar Baar Dekho”.
Nitya, who has previously assisted popular directors like Ang Lee, Farhan Akhtar and Mira Nair, says she had the best team any first time director could ask for.
“I find myself in a privilege position that the kind of producers and actors I had for my first film. I had Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Karan Johar, Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif. I had the best team that any first time director or any director could ask for,” she told PTI.
“They believed in the script so much that they came and collaborated with me so I couldn’t have asked for anything better.”
Solely heading the responsibility of direction for the first time did not make Nitya anxious at all as she always knew she wanted to do that in her life.
“I’ve worked for ten years now in the industry so it wasn’t anything that I was scared of. I was comfortable on the sets, it was very easy.”
Nitya revealed that it was post-production activities which were more difficult for her.
“The hard part for me is promotion and talking about the film. Sometimes it makes me feel like I don’t want to talk about the film. I want people to come and watch it. It has been the toughest part.
“In terms of creating the film, I was very excited because I have always wanted to be a director so it was just like living my dream,” she said.
Praising her star cast Nitya said, “Sidharth is fresh and very new. He is very experimental with the kind of films he takes on and I find that very endearing about him.
“While Katrina is someone, who has been working in the industry for so long, and I don’t think anyone has tapped the side of her that we tried to show in ‘Baar Baar Dekho.’ She is playing a very real character. We tried to infuse Diya with real Katrina,” she added.
Elaborating on the kind of films she would like to make in future, she said, “‘Baar Baar Dekho’ is a very good example of the kind of films I want to make.
“I enjoy love stories but I also enjoy high concept love stories and I’m very intrigued by the human mind so I think it will be all about relationships and mind,” she said.
