A large number of Youth BJD workers took out the bike rally from Vani Vihar Square and marched towards Master Canteen. Wielding sticks and party flags, the BJD workers clashed with the BJP workers at several places on Janpath between Ram Mandir Square and Master Canteen. Stones were pelted from both sides and bikes damaged and torched.

“Our workers hit the streets to help out the poor shopkeepers, commuters and residents, who were harassed and forced to remain indoors due to BJP’s bandh. We tried to protect the people on the streets,” Biju Chhatra Janata Dals (BCJD) president Byomakesh Ray told media persons.
Ray parried when asked as to why the BCJD did not obtain permission from the police for the bike rally.

Police said they tried a lot to prevent the Youth BJD workers from taking out the bike rally from Vani Vihar Square to Master Canteen Square. “We had no information about the bike rally. When we saw the bike rally approaching from Vani Vihar Square, we stopped them. But the bikers breached our security cordon. We had to deal with them with utmost restraint as the situation would have aggravated had we used force,” another police officer said.
