NEW DELHI: The Narendra Modi government has corrected a historic anomaly by recognising three communities of Puducherry as Scheduled Tribes. The President has given his assent to declaration of Irular community (including Villi and Vettaikaran) in the Scheduled Tribes list.
With this decision, Puducherry has got its first Scheduled Tribes. The three communities had got the first approval from Registrar General of India and National Commission for Scheduled Tribes in May and then in November.
