“The President has given his assent on Thursday. With this, we have corrected an anomaly as the same community enjoyed ST status in TN,” a senior official told ET.
Puducherry had sent a proposal for declaration of five communities as ST, including Irular (including Villi and Vettaikaran), Kattunayakan, Malalikuravan, Yerukkula and Kuruman 14 years back.
However, there has been a lot of discussion between the Centre and other agencies. The other four communities are still awaiting the necessary approvals.
