It may be recalled that the chief minister, whose initial comments on demonetisation were strident, especially about the state’s revenue taking a hit, was called by the PM to New Delhi to discuss demonetisation related issues. And at that meeting last Saturday , Chandrasekhar Rao asked the Centre to help the state tide over the revenue losses and release adequate cash to overcome currency shortages among other requests. Significantly, Rao’s request that the government allow people to pay utility bills with the demonetized `500 and `1,000 notes was partially met the Centre which extended the deadline to do so till December 15.
However, the payments will have to be made only in the old `500 notes. This is the Prime Minister’s first visit to the city post demonetisation announcement on November 8. Also, by staying overnight at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy , Modi became the first PM to have spent a night there.
