With its Sheila Dikshit-for-CM card not working, the Congress has decided to discard the “ekla chalo” (go alone) plan and is working on forming a SP + Congress + RLD + JD(U) combine to take on the BJP and Mayawati’s BSP.

Samajwadi Party’s Uttar Pradesh chief Shivpal Yadav has also invited Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh and Janata Dal-United leader KC Tyagi to the SP’s anniversary function on November 5.

Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, is likely to vote in early 2017.
