NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi, reportedly suffering from viral fever, was on Tuesday admitted in a Delhi hospital. But the party’s functioning in Parliament is unlikely to be particularly handicapped by her absence in the middle of a surcharged session.

Vice president Rahul Gandhi has been managing the daily affairs of the Congress Parliamentary Party during the winter session so far and Sonia Gandhi has kept off Parliament barring on the opening day on November 16.

Not that she was unwell since the beginning of the session. She had presided over Indira Gandhi’s birth centenary celebration on November 19 and travelled to Allahabad on November 21 to flag off a mobile exhibition.

Party leaders feel her skipping Parliament, hence, was a way of facilitating Rahul Gandhi — de facto decision maker in most organisational matters — to take charge of the party’s parliamentary wing too.
