Since this has come immediately after the November 7 CWC meeting, which appealed to Rahul to take over the leadership, party sources interpret it as yet another step towards fasttracking the leadership transition.
Party sources said during this session (except when he was travelling or preoccupied), Rahul has been carrying out the duties his mother had been doing in the past sessions as party chief and CPP chairperson.
He presides over strategy meetings of the party’s floor leaders and CPP functionaries every morning and meets Congress MPs individually and in groups to hear them out.
Gandhi also joined the combined meetings of Opposition leaders convened by RS Opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad to discuss ‘united action’ against the government besides joining the Opposition dharnas. Compared to his past record, Gandhi also spends more time in Housethis session.
When contacted, Congress whip KC Venugopal told ET: “In this session, Rahulji has been almost daily presiding over our strategy meetings and meeting Congress MPs, before finalising the collective Congress strategy in both the Houses.”
