Yechury claimed that the argument often put forward by the supporters of capitalism that it was the “final stage of human development” had crumbled, adding, “The discontent of the people is growing in all the capitalist countries.”
“Capitalism will not collapse on its own. To overcome capitalism, the socialist political alternative has to be strengthened. That is the answer to the global crisis and the task before the party is to build the same,” he said.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, former chief minister and CPI(M) veteran VS Achuthanandan, CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, state ministers and party MLAs were among those present on the occasion.
A march, in which hundreds of volunteers took part, marked the opening of the celebrations.
