Ra. One which came in 2011 had everything working for it and then some more. With heavyweights like Shahrukh Khan, Arjun Rampal and Kareena Kapoor to essay the roles to getting to getting the crème de la crème to work on the VFX and the other aspects of the movie. It also had Oscar winner Resul Pookutty looking after sound design. This movie crossed all the stops that money could buy with a budget of 150 crore to make this work. The film made 170 crores. So that’s okay, right? No, because the distributors bled money and failed to recover their costs and it failed to sustain at the box office after its extended opening weekend. Although, SRK would like to give it another shot in the future, this franchise is kinda doomed for now.

The latest attempt in the Bollywood superhero club has been A Flying Jatt where it banks heavily on comedy and antics to get the message across. It has lived with the simple policy- recover your losses and if possible, make some profit, raking in a modest 56 crore out of a 35 crore investment. I would say it has managed to work it’s way through the conundrum.

Now all eyes are on Ayan Mukerji’s Dragon to see if it manages to find a proper balance and to rake in some moolah while doing justice to the desperate need of a true Desi Super hero.
