However, some ATMs near Churchgate station and Nariman Point were open, and surprisingly had no queue in front of them. A watchman at the HDFC Bank said, “The ATM only has Rs-2000 notes. Since the morning, we seen less than 100 people come here, and many among them chose not to withdraw any money when they heard they would only get Rs-2,000 notes. Also, this is a business district so the crowd is always thin on Sundays.”
Meanwhile, traders who have been the most affected by the ban met Shiv SenaPresident Uddhav Thackeray to air their complaints. “This decision has hit our business badly. Generally in the months of November and December, the markets are vibrant. But this move has completely stifled our business,” said Viren Shah, president of the Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association (FRTWA).
